celebrating independence day…

Happy Birthday, America!!!

Squeals and sparklers in the backyard. Running through the sprinkler on freshly mown grass. Dripping slices of chilled watermelon after a cookout on the patio. Fireworks at the football stadium after dark. Memories of the 4th of July rank among some of the best memories tucked away in my mind.

Today is the day we set aside as a nation to reflect on our heritage and history. Funny thing about history – not a bit of it can actually be changed or rewritten, as much as people may try. But, with careful study and reflection, we can see what needs to be adjusted or rectified when moving forward. Perhaps the purpose of history is what we can learn from it.

I always love to dress the porch up a bit for the holiday. In fact, we sometimes leave the bunting up through Labor Day. And you know what happens after Labor Day…..Fall starts to make an appearance!
